Dynamo to alternator conversion

These are notes from an article by Keith Calver on instructions according to Peter Calver.

Parts needed:

• bracket 12G1053

• pulley 12G1054

• fan C37222A

• belt GCB10825

Procedure:

• Disconnect battery

• Remove regulator box from car, carefully marking all connections

• Remove dynamo, etc

• Fit alternator, new bracket, and new belt

• Dismantle regulator (use junk regulator if you have one)

• Remove coils and contacts

• Remove connections to blade terminals

• Solder links between terminals A, A1, and D, connecting all three

• Solder a link between terminals F and E

• Reconnect loom to correct terminals EXCEPT connect ignition warning light (brown/yellow) to terminal E

• Connect alternator to loom: Large wire to large terminal (output), and small wire to small terminal (sensing)

• Reconnect battery
  

If I recall these instructions assume use of Lucas alternator and keeping pos (+) ground. If you convert to neg (-) ground, you need to make sure battery is installed correctly and that the battery connections at the ignition coil are correct.
